WHAT'S NEW?
AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THOSE WERE THE DAYS
On June 27, Chuck Schaden concludes a 39-year career as host of Those Were The Days, the old-time radio showcase he created in 1970.
“It’s time for my wife Ellen and me to take the time we’ve actually been seeking for a number of years,” Schaden writes in the Spring issue of
Nostalgia Digest, which has carried the complete TWTD schedule in every issue since its inception. “A time when we have no other obligations except to ourselves and our family.”
While June 27 marks the end of Schaden’s radio days, we’re happy to report that Those Were The Days will continue. Beginning July 4, Steve Darnall -- the publisher of Nostalgia Digest Magazine -- will take over as the show’s full-time host. Those Were The Days is heard every Saturday afternoon, from 1 to 5 p.m. CST, on WDCB-FM.
“I’m thrilled and honored for the chance to assume the reins of one of my favorite shows,” Darnall says. “I’m grateful to Chuck and his family for all that they’ve done to preserve this unique part of American history and I’m looking forward to keeping this particular party going.”
A complete three-month schedule for Those Were The Days is available in every issue of Nostalgia Digest Magazine.

DO YOU HAVE PAPERS?
On Sunday, June 28, Nostalgia Digest Magazine publisher Steve Darnall is scheduled to appear with legendary journalist Rick Kogan on his WGN Radio show, Sunday Papers. Rick’s a terrific writer with a great appreciation for Chicago’s history and the show is always interesting. Additional information about the show is available at
the WGN Web site.
THE RETURN OF UNCLE SAM
DC Comics has announced plans to reissue Uncle Sam, the critically-acclaimed series by writer Steve Darnall and award-winning artist Alex Ross. Originally published in 1997, Uncle Sam viewed the darker moments of American history through the eyes of a homeless man who becomes convinced that he is the spirit of the nation. The new edition of the book is due to arrive in stores this June. |
